Projects in Plain English - Steve Tofts

About the author

Steve Tofts has more than 30 years’ experience of delivering programmes and projects in the UK, Europe and the Middle East.

Steve was inspired to write the “Projects in Plain English” series of books as way of demystifying a discipline that he believes is relevant to everyone at some point in their career. He’s an passionate advocate of plain English and believes that cutting out the jargon promotes learning. @steve_tofts

more about Steve...

Steve’s interest in project management started in 1998 when he was serving in the Royal Air Force. He was seconded to support the national elections in Bosnia-Herzegovina and tasked with setting up 3,000 polling stations in four war-scarred countries. He’d never managed a project of this scale before and in desperation  borrowed a copy of the PRINCE2 manual from a friend. He read it from cover to cover on the flight to Sarajevo and, whilst it wasn’t an easy read,  found it gave him the framework he needed for what was ultimately a successful project. That was nearly 20 years ago and he still uses PRINCE2 whenever it’s appropriate.

He set up Benchmark Training in 2002 with the aim of making project management skills accessible to everyone. Since that time Benchmark has helped organisations and individuals to learn and apply the world’s leading approaches to programme and project management from structured methods like MSP and PRINCE2 to agile behaviours and techniques.

The “Projects in Plain English” series

Most project management manuals are not an easy read. So we’ve set out to produce a series of books that cover the essentials in an easy to read, accessible format. The “Projects in Plain English” series is published in an A4 format that gives plenty of room for high-quality, crystal clear graphics. What’s more, the books are packed with examples and  case studies to illustrate how things work in the real world.

We’ve just updated “PRINCE2 in Plain English” to reflect the latest developments in the method. “Business Analysis in Plain English” and “Agile in Plain English” will be published early in 2018. You can download the first two chapters of “PRINCE2 in Plain English” and pre-order the other titles using the link at the bottom of the page.

We submit all of our books for approval by the Campaign for Plain English, an organisation that promotes clear, concise writing in all its forms. Why not let us know if there’s a title that you’d like us to add to the range?
